Understanding the Types of Horse Bit
If you just recently step into the horse lover community, this article about types of bit may be very useful for you. A bit is a device put in a horse’s mouth. The purpose of this device is to allow the horse jockey to control the horse. A bit is not placed on the teeth of the horse, instead it rests on the bars of the mouth of the horse where there is no teeth. Since there are many types and variations of bit, it is important to choose the one which answers the horse’s needs so that it feels comfortable to the horse and therefore can deliver its function properly.
Basically, bits can be distinguished into two categories, snaffle bit and leverage bit. Snaffle bit is a bit which works with direct pressure on the tongue and both lips of the horse. It generally has a single jointed mouthpiece and works with a nutcracker effect. The mouthpiece of the bit can differ numerously but as long as it operates based on the direct pressure, the bit is regarded as a snaffle bit.
